Frame... 76 x 52 inches.
This is a dramatic large-scale baroque work, after the original which was completed in Rome in 1698, and now resides in the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli in the Vatican.
The painting is in excellent condition. The original gilt-wood frame carved frame is impressive as are the two winged angels on the upper section of the frame. Circa1800.
Carlo Maratta or Maratti (1625 – 1713) Italian artist, worked mainly in Rome in the Baroque Classical manner.
The monumental gilt frame with the caved angels adorning each shoulder is a marvellous work in itself.
